What steps do I need to take to obtain my Victorian driver’s licence in Bendigo?
At Advance Driver Training, we know that getting your Victorian driver’s licence is a major milestone. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you navigate the process smoothly in Bendigo:
Learner Permit: Begin by applying for a Victorian Learner Permit. To do this, you’ll need to pass the Learner Permit Test, which can be completed online for free or in-person if an interpreter is needed. You must be at least 15 years and 11 months old to apply.
Supervised Driving: After obtaining your Learner Permit, complete a minimum of 120 hours of supervised driving, including at least 20 hours at night. Record all practice in your Learner Log Book or the myLearners App.
Hazard Perception Test: Once you’ve completed your supervised hours, book and pass the Hazard Perception Test at VicRoads. This test evaluates your ability to identify and respond to hazards on the road.
Driving Test: After passing the Hazard Perception Test, schedule your driving test. Ensure you have all necessary documents and coordinate with your instructor, as VicRoads does not provide vehicles for the test.
P-Plates: After passing the driving test, you’ll receive a Probationary Licence (P-plates). You’ll start with a P1 licence for the first year, then progress to a P2 licence.
Full Licence: Once you’ve held your P2 licence for at least three years, you will be issued your full Victorian driver’s licence.
At Advance Driver Training, we’re here to guide you through every step, providing expert instruction and resources to help you succeed.
What is the process for converting an international driver’s licence to a Victorian driver’s licence?
Converting your international driver’s licence to a Victorian driver’s licence is a straightforward process, and Advance Driver Training is here to support you every step of the way.
Start by visiting VicRoads, Victoria’s official licensing authority. Be sure to bring your current international driver’s licence, proof of identity, and evidence of your residential address in Victoria.
You’ll also need to pass an eyesight test and a knowledge test on Victorian road rules. Depending on your country of origin, a practical driving test may also be required.
At Advance Driver Training, we offer tailored lessons to help you get familiar with Victorian road rules and driving conditions. Our experienced instructors provide guidance, tips, and practice sessions to ensure you are fully prepared for any required tests.
For more information, visit the VicRoads website or contact us to book a lesson. We’re dedicated to making your transition to a Victorian driver’s licence smooth and stress-free.
What should I expect on the day of my driving test?
On the day of your driving test, our goal is to ensure you feel fully prepared and confident.
One hour before your test, a professional instructor will pick you up for a preparatory lesson. During this session, you’ll drive in the same area and conditions as your test, allowing you to familiarise yourself with the surroundings and refine your skills. After this lesson, we will go directly to VicRoads for your official driving test. This approach helps calm nerves and maximises your chances of success.
The test has two main components. First, you will be asked to demonstrate basic car controls, including indicators, wipers, and lights. Once you’ve shown proficiency with these controls, you’ll move on to the driving portion.
The driving test is conducted in two stages:
Quiet Streets: You will perform low-speed manoeuvres designed to assess your basic driving skills in a low-pressure environment.
Busier Roads: You will drive on more challenging roads, navigating traffic and various road conditions to demonstrate your ability to handle real-world driving situations.
After completing the test, your results will be assessed at VicRoads. If you pass, you will be issued your licence and have your photo taken on the spot.
Throughout the process, our experienced instructors guide you step by step, ensuring you understand each part of the test and answering any questions you may have.
Are parents or supervisors allowed to accompany me on a driving lesson?
At Advance Driver Training, we encourage parents or supervisors to join your driving lessons. Our instructors are happy to provide guidance and answer any questions your supervising driver may have.
Having a trusted person by your side can make the learning process more comfortable and reassuring.
Additionally, if you’re aged 16–19 and have completed 10–30 hours of driving practice, you and your supervising driver may be eligible for a 60-minute free driving lesson through the myLearners Program with Advance Driver Training.

At Advance Driver Training, we provide well-maintained, regularly serviced Toyota Corollas for all driving lessons.
Our vehicles are fitted with dual controls to ensure maximum safety and control during instruction. They are also fully insured, including professional indemnity and public liability coverage, giving both students and instructors complete peace of mind.
