Painted traffic islands

Traffic islands may be marked on the road before a right-turn lane. You can drive over or wait on a painted island as long as it is not bordered by double lines on the left. However, you must give way to any vehicle already in, or moving into, the turning lane from a marked lane.

Do not use the painted island to make a right turn unless traffic is backed up.
